Douglas Gordon officially accepts the title of Commander of the French Order of Arts and Letters.
Douglas Gordon will officially receive the title of Commander of Arts and Letters (Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres) in a private ceremony in Berlin, where Gordon lives and works.
The Order of Arts and Letters (Ordre des Arts et des Lettres) was established in 1957 to recognize eminent artists and writers, as well as people who have contributed significantly to furthering the arts in France and throughout the world. The Order of Arts and Letters is given out three times annually under the jurisdiction of the Minister of Culture and Communication. Gordon joins a small list of contemporary artists who hold this title: Nan Goldin, Anish Kapoor, William Kentridge, and Richard Serra.
