Gagosian Gallery seeks an experienced, highly-skilled Art Handler to join their Upper East Side team.
This is an opportunity to work on preeminent art exhibitions and international art fairs. This position requires the ability to handle a high level of volume and complexity, with attention to time-sensitivity. Detail orientation along with the ability to multi-task is a must.
The primary focus of this position is the physical movement and installation of art work along with the physical plant supporting the art. Substantial lifting and carrying of heavy items is required as well as the use of ladders and tools.
Work closely with Registrars, sales staff and their assistants to safely move the correct art through the building at the correct time. Excellent verbal and written communications skills along with best-in class art handling skills are required. Strong time management and multi-tasking skills needed in this extremely fast-paced environment.
Minimum 2- 3 years’ experience handling high-value art as an Art Handler in the auction/fine-art shipper/gallery/museum environment. Knowledge including but not limited to hanging art on walls, framing and un-framing, packing into crates and t-frames, creating slipcases and shadowboxes and lighting art work.
Duties include but not limited to:
• Professionally and artistically install art work for viewings including lighting, patching and painting walls.
• Maintain clean and organized art storage areas including keeping exacting inventories.
• Organize and file incoming and outgoing forms, complete condition reports and shipping documents
• Packing, shipping, installation, de-installation, condition reports, wall repair, lighting of works and projects as requested
Qualifications for the role:
BA or BS required, preferably in an art field or extensive art experience and strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel
Full-Time/Regular/Non-Exempt/Salaried position with overtime.
Salary commensurate with experience, comprehensive benefits package including three weeks' paid vacation which increases with tenure.
