Jia Aili was born in Dandong, China in 1979 and lives and works in Beijing. In 2004, he graduated from the New Representationalism Studio of the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, where he subsequently taught from 2005 to 2007, after which time he decided to focus exclusively on his career as a painter.

He participated in the collateral events of the 54th Biennale di Venezia in 2011.
